Let us begin the one hundred and fourteenth sarga of the yuddha kAnDam by offering our prostrations at the lotus feet of SrIrAma and our sathguru.
As rAma reunited with sItA, the troubled past of the king daSaratha also came to an end. The gods had brought along the proud father to meet his son who had accomplished their mission. Grieving deeply for having sent rAma to the exile and giving up his life in thought, the king was much troubled even if he had been assured the heavens, thanks to the great conduct of his son. Now as he stood witness to the eulogy of lord brahma, command of lord agni and reunion og sItA and rAma, the king found peace. The past events fell in place and the great divine plan became clear to him. The bygone daSaratha embraced his sons and acclaimed their exploits and vow of dharma. He praised sItA for the conduct she displayed under very adverse conditions. The king blessed them all and went back to his secured seat in the high heavens. Onwards…
As daSartha left for the heavens in his aerial chariot, the bestower of the plenty, lord indra spoke delightfully to rAghava who stood along with lakshmaNa and sItA with folded hands –
“O repressor of the foes, you have proven to be our saviour and it is a joy to behold you. We gods are very delighted about you and so you can ask for whatever you want”.
As lord indra spoke, rAma responded and said –
“O lord of the gods, if you are indeed pleased with me then I shall ask you something and stay true to your promise. All those vAnaras who have engaged in the battle for my sake and shown their valour and have lot their lives may please be brought back to life. All such vAnaras who left their kin for my sake, and fought for my sake without caring for their lives may please be resurrected from their death. This is what I would ask of you. I want to see all those vAnaras and Rkshas (bears) spring back to life without any injuries and exhaustion. And wherever these vAnaras reside, let the trees bears fruits there even if it seasonal. Let the rivers there carry clear water”.
Responding to the desire of the magnanimous rAghava, lord indra spoke graciously and affectionately –
महानयं वरस्तात यस्त्वयोक्तो रघूत्तम ।
द्विर्मया नोक्तपूर्वं च तस्मादेतद्भविष्यति ॥
“O dear delight of the raghus, this is an extraordinary ask! However, I have never reneged on my words and so it shall happen. The Rkshas, vAnaras and gOpuchhas who have been struck by the demons and lost their lives will spring to life without any injury or exhaustion as if they woke up from deep sleep and will reunite with their kin in great ecstasy. The trees shall blossom and bear fruits for them even when it is not the season for them to do so. The rivers shall carry plenty of waters for them”.
Then the dead vAnaras and Rkshas sprang to life as if they woke from slumber and the remaining vAnaras couldn’t believe and exclaimed ‘what just happened’ and revered rAghava.
ततः समुत्थिताः सर्वे सुप्त्वेव हरियूथपाः।
बभूवुर्वानराः सर्वे किंन्वेतदिति विस्मिताः॥
The gods eulogised the accomplished rAma along with lakshmaNa and said –
“O great hero, now send away the vAnaras and go back to ayOdhyA. Please console this illustrious, devoted and austere maithilI. Go back and reunite with your brothers, the great Satrughna and bharata who has taken a vow out of his grief for your exile. Meet all your mothers and crown yourself as the king of ayOdhyA and confer great joy on the subjects”.
गच्छायोध्यामितो वीर विसर्जय च वानरान् ।
मैथिलीं सान्त्वयस्वैनाम् अनुरक्तां यशस्विनीम् ॥
Having spoken thus, the gods left to their divine abodes in their glorious chariots that dazzled like the sun. Having bid farewell to the gods, rAma along with lakshmaNa asked the army to retire into their camps. The illustrious army that was protected by rAma and lakshmaNa celebrated boisterously and dazzled in the camps like a cool night filled with moonlight.
Here we conclude the one hundred and fourteenth sarga of the yuddha kAnDam of SrImath vAlmiKi rAmAyaNam and humbly offer it at the lotus feet of SrIrAma. Hari: Om!
