Let us begin the thirty second sarga of the sundara kAnDam by offering our prostrations at the lotus feet of SrIrAma and our sathguru.
After biding his time through the storm that rAvaNa brought and wrecked the psyche of sItA forcing her to go to the brink of ending her life, hanumAn deliberated about his approach which had to be quick and as importantly effective to save her life and also uphold the mission of rAma. He thought for a while and to attract her attention without any anxiety he sang the story of rAma very briefly and in that he introduced himself and the mission that brought him here. The approach of hanumAn is brilliant for its brevity and also shows the power of rAma story to open dead ends. Sure enough, sItA took note of the soothing story of her lord which came to her at this unbelievable and vulnerable moment and stopped the train of suicidal thoughts. She looked around and gazed the brilliant hanumAn on the SimSupa tree. Onwards…

The much disturbed sItA, upon hearing rAma’s story in a soothing voice beheld the brilliant hanumAn clothed in whites and shining like lightning. Seeing the vAnara who resembled the bloom of the aSOKa tree and had gold complexioned eyes and spoke pleasing words, maithilI was startled. She exclaimed at the imposing and difficult-to-behold presence of the vAnara and briefly lost her senses in bewilderment. She was terrified and piteously wailed recollecting the name of rAma and lakshmaNa again and again in a hushed manner. Noticing the best of the vAnaras who had a very humble presence, maithilI started thinking if she was dreaming.
सा वीक्षमाणा पृथुभुग्नवक्त्रं शाखामृगेन्द्रस्य यथोक्तकारम्।
ददर्श पिङ्गाधिपते रमात्यं वातात्मजं बुद्धिमतां वरिष्ठम्।।5.32.7।।
As she saw the beast of the branches (vAnara) with a displaced jaw, the minister of sugrIva and the son of the wind god, the best among the wise people, sItA’s senses froze and she almost died! Soon recovering into her senses, the wide-eyed beauty reflected further –
“Alas, I saw a crooked monkey in my dreams which doesn’t bode well as per the scriptures. May wellness be upon rAma, lakshmaNa and my father janaka. However, I have lost my sleep to grief and torment bereft of the handsome rAma and hence this cannot be a dream!
I am very much awake and consciously always thinking of rAma, his form and ruminating on his glory. Hence it appears I am hearing a reflection of what is in my mind.
रामेति रामेति सदैव बुद्ध्या विचिन्त्य वाचा ब्रुवती तमेव।
तस्यानुरूपां च कथां तदर्थमेवं प्रपश्यामि तथा शृणोमि।।5.32.11।।
All my thoughts have been focused only on rAma out of my total love for him and I am thus always thinking of only him and nothing else, and hence it appears that I am only hearing the reflection of what is in my mind.
अहं हि तस्याद्य मनोभवेन सम्पीडिता तद्गतसर्वभावा।
विचिन्तयन्ती सततं तमेव तथैव पश्यामि तथा शृणोमि।।5.32.12।।
It is my fervent desire to see rAma and hence I think I am hallucinating that I am hearing his story. However hallucinations do not involve another person who has a definite form. However in this case, the one recounting the story of rAma to me has a definite and manifested form!
My salutations to the lord of speech (bRhaspati), lord indra, lod brahma and lord agni. May they bless that whatever has been spoken by this vAnara in front of me be matter of fact and not otherwise.
नमोऽस्तु वाचस्पतये सवज्रिणे स्वयंभुवे चैव हुताशनाय च।
अनेन चोक्तं यदिदं ममाग्रतो वनौकसा तच्छ तथास्तु नान्यथा।।5.32.14।।
Here we conclude the thirty second sarga of the sundara kAnDam of SrImath vAlmiKi rAmAyaNam and humbly offer it at the lotus feet of SrIrAma. Hari: Om!
