Hari Om.
Let us begin the nineteenth sarga of the bAlakAnDam with offering our prostrations at the lotus feet of SrIrAma and our sathguru.
Hari: Om. In this sarga, the supreme sage viSwAmitra requests the king to send his scion Rama to protect the yajna that he proposed to do. daSaratha feels sad. In to the sarga…

Having heard the delightful pronouncements of the king, the resplendent viSwAmitra was thrilled and said “hardly there exists on this entire earth, a king as great as you and ably advised by the great sage vasisTha. I shall now reveal the purpose of my visit, please take a decision such that you stand true to the words of promise that you uttered. I am performing a yajna abiding by strict discipline. Even before the completion of the same, two well trained demons by name mArica and subAhu are creating obstructions and desecrating the yajna vEdi, the altar by raining streams of blood and flesh on it. I was deeply disappointed and discouraged at the desecration of my religious ritual and left that place. The nature of this vow is such that I cannot curse them and hence I couldn’t vent my anger at them. Therefore, O great king, it will be fitting if you can give me your eldest son rAma, whose prowess is his adherence to truth, the one with lovely curls of side locks!
स्वपुत्रं राजशार्दूल रामं सत्यपराक्रमम्।।1.19.8।।
काकपक्षधरं शूरं ज्येष्ठं मे दातुमर्हसि।
Protected by me and his own prowess, rAma will be supremely capable of destroying the demons who are causing impediments in my yajna. Rest assured, I will bless him in several ways by which his fame will spread in the three worlds. There is no way that mArica and subAhu will be able to stand in the way of rAma. He and he alone is capable of annihilating them. Soaked in the pride of their immense strength, those two wicked demons have been caught in the noose of yama and their strength is of no match for the great rAma. It is not right on your part to be hesitant being caught in the affection towards your son. I assure you that the two demons will be demolished by rAma. The sages who are steadfast in their penance, vasisTha and me know rAma, the one established in his truth and prowess.
O noble emperor if you seek everlasting fame and the benefits of dharma in this world, it would serve you right to send rAma with me. O descendant of kautstha, if your ministers and advisers led by sage vasisTha give you their consent, you may please send rAma with me. You should give me your dear, lotus eyed, impartial and dispassionate son for the duration of the yajna which is but for ten days. Prosperity be unto you, O rAghava, the descendant of raghu, don’t be disturbed, please decide in a manner that the yajna I have conceived doesn’t get delayed”. Having elaborated thus using words full of dharma and merit, the sage became silent. The emperor daSaratha, heard the auspicious words of sage viSwAmitra and was overcome by fear and despondency. The king felt like he had fallen off his throne having listened to the words of sage viSwAmitra which were heart breaking and agitated him tremendously.
Thus ends the nineteenth sarga of the bAla kAnDam which is offered reverentially at the lotus feet of lord rAma.
Here we conclude the nineteenth sarga of the bAla kAnDam of SrImath vAlmiKi rAmAyaNam and humbly offer it at the lotus feet of SrIrAma. Hari: Om!
jAi SrIrAma.
