Hari Om.
Let us begin the fifty third sarga of the araNya kAnDam by offering our prostrations at the lotus feet of SrIrAma and our sathguru.
The vulture king jaTAyu put up a valiant fight to save sItA from being abducted. Without thinking for a moment about being unequal in might to rAvaNa with the spirit of utmost loyalty and devotion to rAma, the bird plunged into the fray and caused great damage to both rAvaNa’s body and reputation. He flayed his conduct by sharp words and hurt him with his sharp beak and claws. The heroic bird broke his bows, killed his charioteer and destroyed the chariot itself. Bereft of his chariot rAvaNa along with sItA fell onto the ground. He then took to the skies of his own might carrying sItA away. The bird chased him down and obstructed him. rAvaNa took out his sword and clipped the wings and claws of jaTAyu and carried sItA away. As she was being abducted thus, the world stood still, nature mourned her troubles but no one could do anything about it. The grandsire lord brahma announced the mission was on course and almost accomplished and the clairvoyant sages of the danDaka forest who could divine the mission of rAma’s exile exulted and despaired at the same time. Onwards…

As rAvaNa took to the skies carrying sItA, she wept piteously, and was very agitated, she was seething with anger and her eyes turned red and she looked at rAvaNa of frightening eyes and lambasted him further thus –
“You lowlife, aren’t you ashamed to have abducted me when I was without my husband and to flee like this having stolen me? You vile creature, with an intention to kidnap me, you lured my husband away from me by presenting the golden deer. And now you have shown your valour on this poor bird jaTAyu who is the contemporary of my father-in-law and killed him. You lowly demon, indeed you have shown your heroism and you should know that you have not won me in a war with a stated intention. How come you are not mortified to carry out such a heinous act of kidnapping a lonely wife of another? This despicable act of yours will earn you condemnations from people all around who will pooh-pooh your self-proclaimed bravery. Fie on your might and valor about which you boasted so much then and your conduct will bring ignominy to not only you but your entire race.
You are speeding away thus, pause a bit and you shall not go back alive. If you so much come in the sight of the two princes, you shall not survive even with an army. Just like birds cannot bear the heat of the forest fire, you will be scorched by the arrows of rAma and lakshmaNa. Do this favour to yourself, leave me, or else, enraged at my violation, my husband along with his brother will destroy you.
You lowlife with whatever intention and determination you are abducting me, know that it will completely go in vain, for, bereft of my husband and without him by my side, I would not want to hold on to my life.
न नूनं चात्मनः पथ्यं श्रेयो वा समवेक्षसे।।3.53.16।।
मृत्युकाले यथा मर्त्यो विपरीतानि सेवते।
Mortals are not able to decide about what causes their welfare when the end is near and they end up in doing the exact opposite! Those with their end near, do not appreciate the path chosen by others and you on top of that are not feeling the fear when you should be afraid, therefore I clearly see the noose of death around your neck.
The symptoms of death are well around you, in form of the golden trees that you see, the torrent frightening flow of blood, large trees with pricking and pointed swords as leaves. These visions are sure signs of death and I am sure you are seeing those omens.
Just like a person who has drunk poison cannot expect to be alive, you will not be alive having performed this treachery on the noble rAma. O rAvaNa, surely the deathly noose is round your neck and how far will you go to escape from my husband rAma and find peace?
In a matter of minutes, even without the help of his brother, he vanquished fourteen thousand demons in forests of danDaka. How will that rAma adept in deploying a range of divine and ordinary weapons keep quiet when his dear wife is abducted”?
Being carried away by rAvaNa, vaidEhI (sItA) censured rAvaNa with these and other harsher words. She was frightened all the same and cried bitterly. Thus the helpless sItA struggled, cried and trembled in grief as rAvaNa carried her away.
Here we conclude the fifty third sarga of the araNya kAnDam of SrImath vAlmiKi rAmAyaNam and humbly offer it at the lotus feet of SrIrAma. Hari: Om!
